300/500/600 Yard Tournament

Friday September 9th, 13:00 – 18:00
Saturday September 10th 08:00 – 18:00
Sunday Sept 11th 08:00 – 14:00

This is your friendly reminder we will host the South Carolina State Tournament for Mid-range Prone & F-class  The rifle line will be open to members to shoot casual but the live fire opportunity will be somewhat limited by the amount of activity on the long side of the line.

3 separate matches totaling 6 targets of 20 rounds plus sighters over two days. (150 rounds) There will be two targets at each distance: 300yard, 500yard and 600yard.  Each distance is a separate match with a slate of winners that will receive medals.  The tournament winners in each class will get very nice medals or plaque and certificates to hang on the wall.
Online registration online is required and open now!  Please see the match program and registration pages here;  SC Mid-range Prone & F-class Championship and the program here: September Program.  Also forward this email and the links to anyone interested in competing at the state level.  This is a championship, but shorter distances than most of our matches, so even beginners have a fair chance at a medal.  Service rifle, match rifle and F-class rifle welcome.

We will server lunch Saturday and Sunday. Bring a chair, and rain gear JIC.

Best Long Range in the low-country

We strive to make the match safer, more comfortable and more fun every month.  The outstanding assistance and participation of most of the competitors is the only reason that is possible.  I want to thank everyone for their continued aid to new shooters and assistance with match duties.
August has been another great match for the Long Range crowd, we had 15 shooters this month, the match directors did not shoot or we would have had 17.  A pretty good turnout for 100°F – 85% humidity.  Fantastic scores as usual, 8 shooters shooting at least one target above 95% Competition is as tough as it gets yet somehow the cooperation for and coaching of new shooters gets better every month. Top score this month was Tom Finley, relatively new to the sport earlier this he was shooting a brand new rifle and posting average beginner scores, now he and a few other “upstarts” are regularly posting Master and High-master targets.  And this month the T/R-class shooters actually topped the Open-class.

Before I go into details of the August match, I want to remind everyone that our September match is the State Championship Mid-range Tournament.  3 separate matches totaling 6 targets of 20 rounds plus sighters each, shot over two days.  There will be two targets at each distance: 300yard, 500yard and 600yard.  Each distance is a separate match with a slate of winners that will receive medals.  The tournament winners in each class will get very nice medals or plaque and certificates to hang on the wall.  Pre-registration online is required!  Please see the match program and registration pages here:  SC Mid-range Prone & F-class Championship and the program here: September Program

Match Results

As usual we had great cooperation from every competitor, and managed to finish in record time (trying to beat the heat).  A few shooters had minor equipment issues, one shooter had to drop out due to physical injury.   Weather was sunny with mild to no wind, good light and plenty of mirage.

A few spectators were on hand and two new prospective shooters came out to learn match procedures and ask questions about equipment.

Here are the results; 1st T/R – Tom Finley @ 581-12x, 2nd T/R – Kevin Baker @ 579-13x, 3rd T/R – Peter Nistad @ 578-20x (had Peter not dropped a shot he would have one handily) Just edging out Steven Pietro who was robbed of Bronze by a technicality.  In Open Class; 1st Open – Henry Neale @ 574-5x, 2nd Open – Layne Howard @ 561-11x and 3rd Steven (I don’t even need three targets) Chicca @ 357-2x.

Well its nice to have some fresh faces on the podium, this months winners are Malcolm Drennon 1st-Open (missing from photo), Matt Sarsfeld 3rd-Open, Steven Chicca 2nd-Open, Kevin (bacon) Baker 1st-T/R with 2 new club records, Bob Wills 1st-Service Rifle, Charlie Cheatham 2nd-T/R, Tom Finley 3rd-T/R.  congratulations guys this was one of the most competitive fields to date.  Average scores were well above marksman.

The Match

Weather was hot but dry, forecast was for 100 but it didnt get past 96.  Gentle breezes and the fan helped out a lot, no body was complaining about the heat, some complained about the shifting wind or bullets or whatever but everyone had a good score.  Several shooters shot for a personal best target or best match including 4 of our winners.

Fastest Match YTD as well

As usual Malcolm arrived very early and new shooter Robert Zahrn helped setup the frames before I arrived before08:00, we shot our first target before 09:00 and were all fed by 12:00.  We completed the last target after 13:00and were all ready to award medals by 14:00.  Great job team very smooth and easy match for me.
